Although this is not the place for such talk, Scooter does what only someone of shared sentiment would: he lets Roudie finish. It seems to work as Roudie calms down, realizing. They meet eyes to speak above the crowd, still wild. He knows. The feeling is shared, but not publicized. After a while, Hirlem and Monie decide it's time. On their way out, they hear the next band come on. "No, it's still the same band," says Monie. They wade through the comfortable crowd roar.
